In a cohort study of more than 60 000 carotid endarterectomies published online November 8 2017 in JAMA Surgery compared with primary CEA redo carotid endarterectomy was associated with a 2.8 times increase in stroke and a 2.2 times increase in death among asymptomatic patients. No significant differences in outcomes were observed in symptomatic patients.
